Colour Bar: Reweighing Leftovers
Tutorial 20.13: Colour Bar: Reweighing Leftovers
Introduction
After the colour is on the client, there's often product left over in each bowl. Reweighing leftovers gives you a true "grams used" number per product â which means more honest overage calculations, tighter stock reconciliation, and better margin reports.
Reweigh is optional. The Colour Bar assumes you used everything dispensed unless you tell it otherwise.
Who this is for: Stylists / colourists at the Colour Bar station What you'll learn:
- When the Reweigh screen appears
- Weighing leftovers bowl-by-bowl
- What to do when you've thrown the leftover away (Skip reweigh)
- The "used more than dispensed" warning
- How to finalise the reweigh
Time to complete: 10 minutes
Prerequisites
- A formula finalised via the Mix screen (Tutorial 20.12)
- The appointment shows Applied or Reweigh due status on Today (Tutorial 20.10)
When does Reweigh appear?
Once a formula is finalised, the appointment's status on Today moves through three phases based on time since finalise:
- 0â5 minutes: Applied â colour on. Short buffer while the colour starts processing. The "Reweigh now" button is already available on the appointment, but the status label hasn't flipped yet.
- 5 minutes â 4 hours: Reweigh due. Today surfaces the appointment in the Reweigh due filter and the appointment card shows "Applied â reweigh due".
- After 4 hours: Done (auto). The appointment auto-marks as Done, leaving actuals as they were at finalisation (i.e. assumes you used what you dispensed). No manual action needed.
You reach the Reweigh screen from Today â tap the appointment â Reweigh now.
The Reweigh screen layout
- Active item card â "Place leftover from bowl N on the scale" plus the product name and the grams that were originally dispensed
- LiveWeightCard â the same Tare / Capture controls as the Mix screen (see Tutorial 20.12)
- Bowl actuals summary â every item listed in order with checked / unchecked state and the leftover weights captured so far
- Skip reweigh and Finalise & save â buttons at the bottom. Finalise is disabled until every bowl has a leftover captured.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Weigh each bowl's leftover
- Place the first bowl's leftover product on the scale (empty bowl on the scale, then pour the leftover in, or weigh the full bowl and tare out the empty bowl weight)
- Tap Tare if needed
- Wait for Stable
- Tap Capture
- The Active item advances to the next item
- Repeat until every item has a leftover captured
Step 2: Use the summary to track progress
The Bowl actuals summary updates live:
- Checked items â "used Y.Y g (âZ.Z leftover)"
- Unchecked items â "awaiting reweigh"
- Total used / dispensed line appears at the bottom once all are captured
Step 3: Handle "used more than dispensed"
If the total used (dispensed minus leftover) ends up larger than the total originally dispensed, a warning banner appears:
Used more than originally dispensed â recheck the leftover weights.
Likely causes: a taring mistake, the wrong bowl on the scale, or leftover from a different formula mixed in. The warning doesn't block Finalise â it's there to nudge you to re-capture before saving. Tap any item's row to re-capture by placing it on the scale and tapping Capture again.
Step 4: Finalise the reweigh
Once every bowl has a leftover captured:
- Tap Finalise & save â
- The reweigh is recorded and you're returned to Today
- A toast confirms: "Reweigh recorded."
- The appointment is now marked Done.
Step 5: When to Skip reweigh
If the leftover is gone â rinsed down the basin, thrown into the colour bin, used as a neutraliser â tap Skip reweigh. The skip fires immediately (no confirmation prompt), so only tap it when you're sure:
- Any bowls that were never captured get their actuals filled with the dispensed (target) amount
- The appointment is marked Done
- A toast confirms: "Reweigh skipped â actuals kept as captured during mixing."
You should Skip whenever reweigh isn't possible. It's not a failure mode â it's a valid outcome.
Common Pitfalls
"The appointment is already marked Done"
If more than 4 hours have passed since Finalise, the appointment auto-moves to Done with the original (dispensed) actuals. Reweigh isn't available after that. If the usage really matters, refund / modify the transaction (Tutorial 8.2) to reopen the formula.
"I Reweighed but it's not adjusting the overage charge"
Reweigh adjusts the formula's actuals and the stock movement log, but the overage line item is calculated at Finalise time. If reweigh reveals the actual usage was different, ask an Owner to refund / modify the transaction (Tutorial 8.2) to trigger a re-stage.
"I got a 'used more than dispensed' warning"
Re-capture the offending bowl. Common cause: you forgot to tare, so you're weighing bowl + leftover but the system thinks you're weighing just leftover. The warning is advisory â Finalise still works â but the numbers will be wrong if you save with it showing.
"I Skipped by mistake and wanted to reweigh"
Skip fires immediately with no confirmation. Once it's stamped, the formula's actuals are frozen. If the actuals matter, refund / modify the transaction (Tutorial 8.2) to reopen the formula and correct manually.
Tips and Best Practices
- Reweigh every colour if you're on Full mode â you'll thank yourself at month-end when the stock reconciles cleanly.
- Skip honestly â if the leftover is gone, skip it. Don't guess a leftover weight just to have a number.
- Tare between bowls â same habit as Mixing.
- Reweigh at the end of your shift in a batch â if you don't have a minute between clients, come back to them during your last tidy-up.
- Leftovers that stack â if you had two bowls of the same product, weigh them separately. The summary matches bowl-by-bowl, not total.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Reweigh required?
No. Skip is a first-class option. You'll still get Done status on the appointment; stock decrements and overage charges reflect whatever actuals you captured at Finalise.
Why 4 hours?
A typical colour processing time + apply + wash-off cycle is well under 4 hours. The window is long enough for any normal salon workflow but short enough that Reweigh doesn't clutter up Today for days.
What happens after 4 hours if I never reweighed?
The appointment auto-marks as Done with the original actuals. No warning, no loss â the system just moves on.
Does Skipping Reweigh affect the overage charge?
Only if the actuals would've been different post-reweigh. For most salons, Skip keeps things simple and the charge stays as-calculated at Finalise.
Can I Reweigh twice?
No â once you Finalise (or Skip) the reweigh, it's stamped and the appointment moves to Done. If numbers are wrong, refund / modify the transaction (Tutorial 8.2) to reopen.
Does Skip ask me to confirm?
No. Skip fires immediately â only tap it when you're sure the leftover is gone. Any bowls still awaiting a reweigh have their actuals filled with the dispensed amount.
